The Dropdown question type in Zonka Feedback enables you to present a list of predefined options in a compact, clickable dropdown menu. This is ideal when you want to save screen space and keep your survey interface clean, especially on mobile or kiosk devices.

Use Dropdowns when:

  • You have a long list of answer choices (e.g., country, state, product names)

  • You want to show options in a collapsible format instead of full list view

  • You need respondents to select one option only

📌 Dropdown is available on all Zonka Feedback plans.

What is a Dropdown question?

  • A Dropdown allows respondents to select one answer from a list of predefined choices.

  • The list is collapsed by default and expands only when clicked, saving space on screen.

  • It is ideal for mobile surveys and long response sets.

Where to use a Dropdown question

  • Selecting country, region, or language

  • Choosing departments, services, product types, or categories

  • Capturing single selections when you want a neat and minimal layout

How to add a Dropdown to your survey

  1. Go to the Survey Hub from the main navigation.

  2. Select the survey you want to edit from the list.

  3. In the Build section of the survey, open the Question Types Panel on the left.

  4. Under the Choices category, click on Dropdown.

  5. The question will be added to your survey. You can also drag and drop it to your desired position.

Customization options for Dropdown

  • Question Label: Enter the question (e.g., “Which department did you visit?”)

  • Add Options: Enter all the options you'd like respondents to choose from

    • Add as many as needed

    • Use drag-and-drop to reorder options

  • Pre-select Option: Optionally, set a default selection

  • Randomize Choices: Shuffle options for each respondent (can be toggled on)

  • Make it Required: Ensure respondents can't proceed without answering

  • Apply Survey Logic:

    • Show or hide questions based on selected dropdown option

    • Trigger specific follow-up questions using logic rules

  • Customize Option Labels:

    • Format with capital letters or use consistent naming (e.g., title case)

Things to keep in mind

  • Only one option can be selected with a Dropdown. For multiple selections, use the Checkbox question type.

  • Dropdown menus are mobile-friendly and ideal for long lists.

  • Dropdown does not support “Other” text input directly — use logic to show a Text Box for "Other" if needed.

  • Dropdowns are scrollable if you have a very long list — so make sure your list is well-ordered for ease of use.
